Prototype Machinist

    TJ Aerospace is a growing Aerospace manufacturing company specializing in milling/fabricating small to large high precision-machined and tight tolerance parts in Garden Grove, California.

    Job Summary

    The Prototype Machinist position is involved in the development of processes and methodologies of manufacturing first run parts.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The primary duties and responsibilities of the Prototype Machinist consist of but are not limited to:

    • One of the key components is documentation of methods for future application in a production setting
    • Machine production
    • Machine maintenance
    • Perform in-process inspection of machined products (including documentation of results)
    • Constant use of hands and upper extremities in fine and gross manipulation using various wrist positions and grip/pinch spans to operate equipment, push buttons, carry boxes, push carts, etc.
    • Frequent firm grip with tools requiring torque to tighten machine parts
    • Continuous standing at one machine for prolonged period of time
    • Maintain balance when completing machine set-up, production, and maintenance duties
    • Frequent lifting of steel plates from racking, to cart and machine
    • Setup and operation of multiple thru wire EDM machines
    • Assist in development of tooling, processes, and fixturing for single and multiple pallet production
    • Complete secondary operations i.e. deburr, polish, etc. in cycle time per print and process
    • Able to lift 70 lbs

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum requirements – Graduate of high school
    • Two year certificate in machine trades preferred
    • Minimum work experience – 5 years in a manufacturing environment in relating to machine trades and the products produced

    Authorities:

    • Stop the machine or process if safety, quality, or productivity standards are compromised

    Accountabilities:

    • The Prototype position is responsible for all areas in the development of process, manufacturing methods, and collection of baseline data for first time parts
    • The Prototype position has the unique opportunity for exploration into new technologies and manufacturing methods, free of conventional constraints

    Competencies:

    • Strong CAD/CNC programming skills
    • Proficient in GD&T
    • Strong mathematics skills
    • Understanding of multiple manufacturing processes
    • Highly detailed
    • Strong mechanical aptitude
    • Able to work independently under minimal supervision
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Understanding of tools required to check product to guarantee part quality
