Manufacturing Engineer

    TJ Aerospace is a growing Aerospace manufacturing company specializing in milling/fabricating small to large high precision-machined and tight tolerance parts in Garden Grove, California.

    Job Summary

    The Automation Engineer is primarily responsible to oversee and support operations with automated manufacturing and inspection systems related to equipment, validation, programming, implementation, and continuous improvement. This position will promote the streamlining of processes to make it as efficient as possible while still maintaining quality and adhering to procedures and regulations. The Automation Engineer will be involved in planning detailed design specifications, programming, testing, implementation, monitoring of automation processes and documentation.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The primary duties and responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer consist of but are not limited to:

    Cost Effective Process: Develops cost-effective processes and procedures for the manufacture of parts and assemblies in conformance with established specifications and customer requirements in conjunction with production personnel.

    • Analyzes short and long-term needs for the job
    • Develops manufacturing cost estimates to support quoting activities
    • Develops time standards for the jobs to be run in production
    • Develops and maintains manufacturing documentation, including CAD drawings for cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures
    • Designs fixturing to facilitate machining, inspection, finishing and/or assembly operations
    • Documents production processes to be understood and implemented by production personnel
    • May designate, modify and/or make recommendations for the procurement of equipment necessary to produce parts and/or assemblies

    Input and Maintenance of Manufacturing Plan in ERP System: Responsible for accurate input of the manufacturing plan into the ERP system and maintenance of the following key elements of the system:

    • Part records
    • Product structure / Bill of material
    • Manufacturing operations

    Continuous Improvement: Responsible to perform activities that reduce cost, improve quality and on-time delivery

    • Analyzes machining and assembly cycle times to provide continuous cost reductions
    • Makes recommendations and directs changes to achieve improvements
    • Analyzes feedback/recommendations, incorporates improvements as appropriate

    CNC Programs: Works with a team to develop robust and verified CNC programs

    • Supply CNC Programmer with complete machining plan, including identifying any special cutting tools or fixtures as required
    • Coordinate efforts to ensure CNC programs are complete and verified before the scheduled start date

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing /mechanical engineering or a related field with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience, or a two-year post high school diploma/certificate and a minimum of six years of relevant experience
    • Experience with CAD/CAM systems utilizing solid modeling
    • Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment

    Competencies:

    • Experience in the machining industry, job shop machining preferred
    • Experience developing CNC programs and /or machining process plans
    • Experience with special processes (e.g. plating, welding, heat treat, etc.)
    • Proficient in the application of GD&T and related inspection methodology
    • Understanding of multiple manufacturing processes as well as a variety of materials
    • Knowledge and/or experience in the design and selection of fixturing and tooling for complex parts
    • Experience with ISO quality systems and World Class Manufacturing principles
    • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to perform engineering calculations related to machining
    • Able to work on multiple projects with accuracy
    • Highly detailed
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Strong CAD skills
    • Experience conducting process capability studies
    • Experience with ERP systems
